[Athrun looks pretty distraught on the feed. He seems to be indoors, as well. He's been watching the news, so he knows about the Pokémon Centers in Goldenrod, Ecruteak, and Saffron getting destroyed.]

I don't know if everyone's heard, but there's been a series of attacks in three cities. It's all over the news.

Something needs to be done. I don't want to see any more attacks than those that have already happened. I'm going to start patrolling the city. Anyone else in Vermilion interested in helping can let me know; I'll take all the help I can get.

Do we have any idea what's going on here? Is it the usual, or someone else?

[Lightning is soot-stained and scraped when she finally gets to her gear; someone was in Goldenrod on the way to pick someone up, but at least she wasn't in the middle of it.]

No sign of it being Team Rocket, and nobody's come forward saying they did this yet. [frown.] No sign of what caused it, either.

...Damn. Well, I don't think these were accidents. Three Centers in three different cities going up at the same time is too much a coincidence.

What about you? Are you all right?

Around here? Not much is actually accidental. [Especially something this big. No, it's deliberate. Question is, who'd stand to gain from this? Even Team Rocket needs to heal their teams at some point.]

I'm fine. I was leaving Goldenrod when the Centers blew, but I went back to see what had happened.

[And help, a little. But summer clothing does not make for avoiding scrapes. Ah, well. Better than getting pinned under a tree again!]

Hopefully we can get some people to investigate the sites once things settle down a bit more. If we can figure out how they went up, we can get a better idea of who was responsible.

Oh, I see. Good to hear that you're all right, at least. It's too bad we can't say the same about Shinn.

We might be able to, but it's going to take a while. It's a real mess up here.

[Giant mess is giant. And in triplicate. Also, that was a snort. Shinn is something else right now...]

He's better off where he is right now. If he was still in the city he'd just get into more trouble.

I don't doubt it. Something like the sudden destruction of a vital facility is guaranteed to cause a panic. I bet more people were hurt from the ensuing panic than from the actual destruction.

...I see your point. If there's one thing Shinn has always been good at, it's getting into trouble.

It looked that way, yeah. There were a lot of people running around like headless chocobos for a while.

[Different word, but same meaning. Headless birds always run everywhere in a panic.]

You've known him for a while, haven't you?

[Oh, he gets it through context, anyway.]

I have. We served aboard the same ship in the last war.

[Oh, good. Explaining what chocobos are is Hope's gig, not hers.]

So you know how he'll react to things like this. [Combat. Attack. Endless battle. The constants in war.] What do you think he'll do once he's healed? He doesn't seem the type to wait and think things through.

He isn't. He needs someone to follow, and even then he'll go off and do his own thing. He's good enough to be a captain, but he doesn't have the necessary skills to be a major.

[Sigh and a headshake.] I noticed. He's too reckless and stubborn to realize you have to leave some things alone. It's just going to get him into more trouble if this keeps up.

Oh, it already has. Believe it or not, he actually used to be worse.

Worse than charging after someone who was attacking a crowd of people with Zap Cannon? [this face. She...can't quite believe that. not if he's talking about a situation here.]

How does "disobeying a direct order and leaving the battlefield" sound?

Like something someone who was looking for a court martial would do. [siiigh.] Did he at least have a reason to do that?

Yeah, he did. He wanted to run off and rescue a prison camp. I didn't disagree with his intentions, but I did have a problem with his timing.

Find a commanding officer that would appreciate that kind of timing. [headshake.] You don't disobey a direct order, even if it's to save an entire world of people.

[...granted that's what quitting the military is for, but that's not for everyone.]
